Official Nokia N96 Release Date - It’s October 1st
Yes, it’s official, and the blogosphere is rapidly filling up with posts after Nokia has finally announced that the Nokia N96 will be officially released in the UK (and most likely other countries around the world) on October 1st. Carriers in the UK will be 3, Carphone Warehouse, Orange, Phones4U, T-Mobile and Vodafone. Notably missing from this is O2 - one of the largest providers - and one rumour is that this might be due to their tie-in with Apple.
I did try to find the official release from Nokia but haven’t come across it yet. However there seem to be enough sites saying that it’s all official in a very short space of time so I think that’s a pretty good sign that this is the real deal. One imagines that perhaps the reason it has taken so long is that they wanted everything to be perfect in order to successfully challenge the iPhone. Will there be any last minute spec changes? Probably not … but I’m still wishing for Xenon flash!
In the absence of a link to the official story, here’s links to some of the blogs that are carrying the news :
vnunet.com - Nokia N96 to hit the UK in October
thenokian96.com - Nokia n96 in UK on October 1
thesymbianblog.com - The N96 To Start Shipping In October
symbian-guru.com - Nokia N96 Taking Over Europe October 1
Expected launch price is €550 (£430) . I would expect our tv screens to start filling up with ads shortly.
Ironically, I may miss launch date due to being at Oktoberfest … oh the irony!
