Breaking News : Nokia To Pull Out Of Japan

Not quite N96 related but extraordinarily interesting is the news that Nokia is to pull out of Japan. Japan, where they love all their gadgets and electronics is apparently a market where Nokia has struggled to succeed.

Apparently they will continue to sell their luxury handset phones which are branded as Vertu, but the Nokia branded handsets are gone.

According to the the BBC :

Nokia has nearly 40% of the global market for mobile phones, but it reportedly managed to take only 0.3% of Japan’s market last year.

This is reportedly due to Japan’s market being dominated by sophisticated domestically made phones – phones that include tv broadcasting and electronic payment functions.
